Lucion Environmental - Helping with asbestos environments
Asbestos is the ultimate silent killer. You can find this dangerous substance in many parts of our infrastructure, including our schools, airports, motorways and railway lines. Its unique chemical and mechanical characteristics meant that the mineral was used extensively up until the 1980s.
It was used in thousands of industrial and manufactured products, and it is only in the last two decades that the fibre was found to be detrimental to a person’s health, and subsequently banned around the world.
Helping with asbestos management UK, are Lucion Environmental who are an independent asbestos consultancy with offices and experienced teams throughout the country. In particular, when it comes to our infrastructure Lucion are able to meet the unique requirements of each sector, and are completely flexible in regards to working out-with normal hours.
One recent example was Italian airline Alitalia who were found to be using asbestos in the construction of their planes up until 2005, a whole ten years after Italy banned the poisonous material. They faced a backlash from cabin crew and flight attendants, who found themselves unnecessarily exposed in the workplace.
Lucion’s Senior Consultant and Infrastructure Specialist Andrew Wise, is keen to point out that those most at risk are our mechanics and maintenance staff. It is therefore essential for the duty holder (the owner) of any particular asset to make sure that they protect both workers and the general public when dealing with, or identifying asbestos.
